Cover of “(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding. I can’t whistle as high as he could.
Cover of “I Need a Dollar” by Aloe Blacc.
Cover of “Waltz #2” by Elliott Smith. Not for sure if this one turned out right. I wanted to do a version of it after I started working on my cover of “The Biggest Lie” as this is my favorite Smith song even though I’m not just a huge fan of his. I was hoping to get two covers done today as I was requested to do Harry Nilsson’s “1941” but I don’t think I’ll get around to it today. Will get it done next week though. Now I can finally get my guitar back in standard tuning.
Ill fated attempt at a cover of Damien Jurado’s “Ohio.” Done back in 2006. Could’ve been better. I think this guy is a former roommate of my friend Glenn.
Cover of Elliott Smith’s The Biggest Lie. A friend requested this but I didn’t really know what to do on this one. I phoned it in really.
“Johnny Jump Up”
The second in my series of Irish drinking songs for the holidays. I have fond memories of this song because my friends covered it when they had their acoustic trio, Empty Cup. Even though this is a traditional Irish drinking song this is based more on the Gaelic Storm version. From what I’ve gathered, Johnny Jump Up was originally made by putting cider in old whiskey barrels. The liquor that was absorbed in the wood would then seep into the cider and make it stronger.
“Drunken Sailor”
In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day (and because I have nothing better to do) I recorded a series of Irish drinking songs that I’ll post everyday until the 17th. The first is probably one of the most famous drinking songs.
Cover of “Little Willie” by The Sweet. This song has been Certified Organic by Griff.
Cover of “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town,” made famous by Kenny Rogers and The First Edition. This song was requested by one of my friends who thought it was funny. I don’t know why he thought it was funny, but anyway.
Cover of “I Love College” by Asher Roth. This song reminds me of my own days at college…Wait, no it doesn’t.
