Awake As Hell by Griff from the album: Complete Songs of 2011

Wrote this in about fifteen minutes. The melody is reminiscent of an old traditional folk tune.

Awake As Hell

When I get tired of walking
And my feet feel like their busting through my shoes
I lay down my head
Upon my lumpy bed
It’s one in the morning and I’m awake as hell

When I get tired of talking
And my throat feels like it’s drier than the sun
My head falls down real slow
On my old pillow
It’s two in the morning and I’m awake as hell

When I get tired of thinking
And my head is pounding louder than a drum
I take a pill or two
That’s what I usually do
It’s three in the morning and I’m awake as hell

When I get tired of people
And their voices make me dream of heading home
There’s no one that I can meet
Between my worn warm sheets
It’s four in the morning and I’m awake as hell

This is the last of the four Misfits covers I did in 2004. It’s called “Last Caress.”

Back in 2004 I had the idea of recording an album consisting exclusively of Misfits covers done in a country/folk style. Since I have nothing better to post, I decided to put up the four songs I did way back then. Here’s the first one, “Bullet.”

CashTwittyDitty by Griff from the album: Picnic at the Abattoir (2009)

Track 3 From Picnic at the Abattoir.

CashTwittyDitty
I woke up this morning
With a thought crowding my head
The coffee started boiling
While I was stuck here in my bed
I’d still love to see the sunrise
Through somebody else’s eyes
But I sat right up and I got right up
And I fell out thru the door and hit the town

The sky was turning amber
As I blew across the tracks
My heart it started pounding
With the whistle at my back
I can’t wait to see their faces
As they pretend to care
Cause all the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Will never be able to put me together again

I don’t wanna hear about
The way things could’ve been
I would rather run away
Then go thru that again
I can’t believe it’s taken this long to say
I would stay longer I
Can’t stay much longer
I would stay longer
Can’t stay much longer
I’m gonna miss the train
