Track from the upcoming Sad Bastard Ballads.
When I Was Young
I was born on a day when I was young
When my mama tied shoes on my feet
Then I fell when I screamed and praised the lord
And my body thanked god for the sea
And the days were so long when I was young
That the summers would last for a year
I would play on the grass and run around
And I rode my bike in the lake
And the dogs would bark when I was young
There was Bonnie and Clyde in their cage
I would throw an old ball against the wall
And my mama yelled stop every time
I feel like a stranger when I go back home
I suddenly realize I’m always alone
The horses are grazing along in the fields
Then I drive alone to the city
I was born on a day when I was young
When my mama tied shoes on my feet
But those days are long gone and hard to see
And my body lays down for to sleep
