Waking Up Bored by Griff from the album: Complete Songs of 2011

Who knew that such a simple song could be such a bitch to record? For starters, my guitar has a bad habit of buzzing at the bridge, which is usually cured by banging the shit out of it, but this technique failed to work today. Then, for whatever reason, during one of the sections instead of playing in 6/8, I played the rhythm guitar in 11/12, which fucked up the vocals and all the other overdubs I did afterwards. At least it’s done now.

Waking Up Bored

Living in a plastic dream
Everyone’s hopes wrapped up in cellophane
Everything’s looking fine fine fine
Mortgage is a bitch to pay
On top of all that you just got laid off today
Innocent but serving time

Every dime you make is going to the bank
And every bill you pay off another takes its place

There’s plenty of jobs if you don’t complain
So what if they’re minimum wage
If you can find two then you can find three
Who needs the luxury of sleep
You can sell your soul just to make ends meet
But if that seems too steep
You can sell your arm for some gasoline
And the dream of waking up bored

Imagine eating all your meals with a silver spoon
Drinking vintage wine every other afternoon
And if there’s nothing on TV you can buy the station
And demand they play a marathon of all your favorite shows

But that’s all a distant dream
You remember when you were twenty-three
Now you head off to work and when you get home
The day is done day is done day is done
The day is done
And you swear there’s still time
If you work hard when you’re in your prime
But as soon as you’re up they push you back down
They don’t want you there want you there want you there
They don’t want you there

Living in a paradise
Involves ignoring all the bullshit advice
And doing whatever you like like like
Throw away the attitude
Show a little pride in everything that you do
After all it’s only your life
