by Griff from the album: Charlie's Oasis

Track 4 from Charlie’s Oasis. I’ve been busy lately and haven’t had time to post anything to the site (actually I’ve been lazy). It might continue being this way for the next few weeks until the semester ends. As for this song, I was sick and could barely speak when I recorded it, which accounts for the weird sound of my voice.

VODKA TONIC

In the distance I can hear the trains rolling by
proposing toasts to happy years
while dissolving in a pint of beer
and counting all the tears in my vodka tonic
I’m just waiting for the world to end
but in the end if I should stop and say hello
and buy a drink before you go
and play an old jazz standard on the jukebox

I been waiting all night
I been waiting all night for you
and in the morning I can’t help but think that maybe I was
   wrong

I was thinking you look sick to me in misery
and wading in the chance to see that
everything you’ve done to me comes
creeping up behind you like a stranger
what am I supposed to say with everything and everyway
when everyone I’ve ever known comes
drifting to my lovely home
and tracks their muddy boots across my carpet

I can’t see you when I close my eyes
I realize that everything that haunts my past
comes creeping up to bite my ass
and drink my Bourbon whiskey right from the bottle
in the distance I still hear the trains rolling by
proposing toasts to happy years
while dissolving in a pint of beer
and counting all the tears in my vodka tonic
