by Griff from the album: Charlie's Oasis

Track 1 from Charlie’s Oasis. This album was the first disk of three that I recorded with a friend of mine under the name, The Sentient Beings Project. There’s a myspace page for the band but I’m too lazy to link it. Anyway, it was a concept album in which I wrote and recorded a CD by myself, my friend wrote and recorded a CD by himself, and then we collaborated on the third CD. The concept simply revolved around a fictional bar called Charlie’s Oasis and the characters that occupied it.

KARAOKE NIGHTS

Tommy Pabst was lost, he was looking for Matilda
so he went to the car, so he could go out looking for her she was in the backseat with Michael McGee
and she was wiping her mouth on Tommy’s letterman jacket that he got at the school that they both went to
back in the spring of ’92 before they both left town

I got the invitation in the mail the other day
I guess I should forget you but I never wanna stray
I drink another beer and see you staring in his eyes
but I should be the one you’re looking at
These karaoke nights are killing me
he was the one that you accepted in the end
even though I was here long before he ever stumbled in
I try to look away as he holds you in his arms
I should have said I loved you more than once
But I don’t think it would have changed a thing

All of my dreams are lining up against the wall
all of the things that I will never be at all
what can I do when there is nothing left to say
I’ll just go home and hope to live another day
to breathe another day to die another day

Again here we are and there is nothing I can do
I just spend all my time pretending I’m with you
someone is trying to sing a song by Elton John
I think of you each time I hear “Your Song”
maybe I just need a stronger drink
I was afraid that you would tell me not to stay
if I said that nothing feels the same when you’re away
I can’t believe that I have ended up this way
everyone around me’s having fun
these karaoke nights are killing me
