At least today wasn’t a complete waste. Recorded this in one take with no overdubs.
Coal Black Coat
Underneath my coal black coat
Undaunted by the unseen cold I’m trying
But despite my cigarette lined lips
My heart is always breaking
Maybe in a line or two
I could plead my case to you, well, maybe
But the words that I would like to say
Get stuck when they’re in my head
All I wish for is happiness
And time to find my way
I’ll come back another day
To see what else you have to say
Underneath my coal black coat
My skin is peeling back my soul I’m dying
But I don’t know why my lungs still breathe
Or why my heart keeps beating
Sometimes it’s too cold to move
My blankets cover all I do at negative
Four hundred fifty-nine degrees
Then everything stops moving
